Late Summer Lawn Care Tips Has the summer taken its toll on your lawn? Don’t worry – it’s not a total disaster.Here are six summer lawn care tips that will help you give your lawn some much needed TLC now (and get a head start for next spring!): Mow your lawn at the correct heightIn the summer, lawnmowers should be set to a lower blade cut to help keep the grass nice and short – but not too short. A bit of length will help to protect the soil, nutrients and seeds beneath from drying out. After the dry weather we’ve had this year you should be cutting about 1/3 length of your grass each cut. Keep your lawnmower blades sharpDull blades on your lawnmower could cause your lawn to look ragged and untidy. You can avoid this by sharpening your blades every 10 hours spent mowing. Replenish your mower’s oilYour lawnmower could be damaged if you’re using old, dirty or no oil. Because of this, you should replenish your mower’s oil every 50 hours of mowing. Water your lawn wellSummer months are dry, and weeks could pass before your grass gets the chance to have a drink. Aim to water your lawn throughout these dry spells and prevent your lawn from becoming damaged. Ensure any watering is done late at night or early in the morning to prevent scorching of the grass. Tidy up after your dogUrine and faeces can damage grass in the long-run, so rinse the area with water as soon as possible to dilute the chemicals. …and kids!If the kids (or grandkids) have been playing on the lawn with swings, balls and paddling pools, your grass will have taken a hit. There’s little you can do prevent this, and that’s what lawns are for, after all!
